Born September 29, 1941 in Carroll County, he was a son of the late Hollis E. and Sarah E. (Carr) Racine.

Mr. Racine was employed for 21 years as a foreman with Jesse James Edwards Paving in Silver Run, MD. He was a member of the Gettysburg VFW. In his free time, Mr. Racine loved to build and race cars, especially at Lincoln Speedway and Trail-Ways Speedway. Before that, he was a horse jockey at Charles Town. A loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather, he will be dearly missed.

Surviving is his daughter, Cindy V. Racine of Orrtanna; five sons, Joseph T. Racine of Gettysburg, Jeffery A. Racine, Sr. of New Oxford, Brian Racine of McSherrystown, Michael E. Racine of Fayetteville, and William T. Racine, Jr. of Hanover; a step-son, Jerry D. Frye, Jr. of Baltimore; a step-daughter, Joanie M. DeShield of Hagerstown; eleven grandchildren; seven step-grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by two brothers, one sister, and a grandson, George H. Racine.

A funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m Wednesday, September 24, 2008 at the Peters Funeral Home, 321 Carlisle St., Gettysburg. Viewing will be held between 6 and 8 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Serving as pallbearers will be Joseph T. Racine, Jeffery A. Racine, Sr., Brian Racine, Michael E. Racine, William T. Racine, Jr., and Leonard F. Stambaugh, Jr. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Jerry D. Frye, Jr., Shane C. Stambaugh, Lewis B. Stambaugh, and Jeffery A. Racine, Jr.

For those desiring, contributions may be made in Mr. Racine's memory to the funeral home in order to help defray funeral expenses.
