Obituary

William H. Davis, Jr., 77, of Fayetteville, died Tuesday, April 20, 2010 at Chambersburg Hospital. He was the husband of Catherine F. (Reid) Davis, his wife of 47 years.

Born June 18, 1932 in Saxton, PA, he was a son of the late William and Martha (Dickinson) Davis.

Mr. Davis graduated from Chambersburg High School in 1951. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force and served his country honorably for 23 years, retiring as Senior Master Sergeant. Later, Mr. Davis was employed at Mrs. Smith's Pies in Pottstown, Dana Corp UAW in Pottstown, and Snavely's Garden Corner in Fayetteville.

Mr. Davis was a life member of the Charles Nitterhouse VFW Post #1599 and a member of the Hume McNeal AMVETS Post #224, both in Chambersburg. He was an avid sports fan who loved the Baltimore Orioles and college basketball. He was also an accomplished painter and loved gardening, bird watching, and walking.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are three sisters, Shirley A. Brubaker of Shippensburg, Carol J. Sarver of York, and Gloria L. Secrest and her husband Richard of Orrtanna; two sisters-in-law, Anna Lennon of Ireland, and Sumi Davis of Colorado; his brother-in-law, Thomas Reid of Ireland; and a number of nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by two brothers, Franklin J. Davis and Arnold J. Davis.

The funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Saturday, April 24, 2010 at the Peters Funeral Home, 321 Carlisle St., Gettysburg, with Rev. James O'Brien officiating. The family will receive friends beginning 9:30 a.m. at the funeral home. Burial with full military honors will be in Corpus Christi Cemetery, Chambersburg.
