Virginia Mae (Shindledecker) Thomas, 84 of Gettysburg, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 16, 2015 at home. She was the loving wife of Donald Blair Thomas, of Gettysburg.
Born May 22, 1930 in Hagerstown, MD, she was a daughter of the late Clyde and Ruth (Singler) Shindledecker.
Virginia was a loving wife, stepmother, sister, aunt, and friend; she was a devoted member of Mt. Carmel United Methodist church. Virginia was an animal lover and the animals loved her back, she enjoyed feeding and caring for all walks of life, she was loved by all who knew her and will be dearly missed.
In addition to her husband Virginia is survived by a stepson James Thomas and his wife Carolyn; a sister Barbara Weigand of Fayetteville; niece, Sherry Warrenfeltz; two nephews Danny Cullison and Bill Wiegand; close friend, Paula Boehner; fourteen additional nieces and nephews; four grandchildren, and four great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents Virginia was preceded in death by a stepson, David Thomas; brother, Clyde W. Shindledecker, Jr., and three sisters, Pauline Cullison, Betty Sharrah, and Nancy Fissel.
A service to celebrate the life of Virginia Mae Thomas will be held at 1:30 p.m. on Monday, January 19, 2015 at the Peters Funeral Home, 321 Carlisle St., Gettysburg, PA, with Rev. Susan McCarthy officiating. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Gettysburg. Pallbearers will be; Daniel Cullison, Dwight Warrenfeltz, Robert Boehner, Brad Cool, Ronald Wiegand, and Richard Hagee.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Virginia's memory to American Heart Association - Adams Division, 417 Phoenix Drive, Suite A Chambersburg, PA 17201, or SPCA of Adams County, 11 Goldenville Road Gettysburg, PA 17325.
