Virginia B. Hofe, 87, of Gettysburg, passed peacefully, Sunday, September 4, 2011 at home. She was the wife of Glenn P. Hofe who died on March 6, 1967.
Born April 19, 1924 in Adams Co., she was the daughter of the late Mervin and Bessie (Collins) Boyd.
Virginia was a member of St. James Lutheran Church, Gettysburg and years ago was a pre-school Sunday School teacher. She was employed for a number of years with the Adams Co. Court House, Domestic Relations Department. She was actively involved with the local AARP and the Gettysburg Senior Citizens Club. Virginia was also a member of the Gettysburg Chapter #392 Order of Eastern Star, and the VFW and American Legion Auxiliaries, Gettysburg.
Virginia is survived by four daughters; Judith Whittinghill, Albuquerque, NM, Linda Sheridan, Spring Grove, PA, Susan Weaver, Clearwater, FL and Cynthia Neary, Lancaster, PA, two sisters; Helen Hubbard, McSherrystown and Anna Myers, Littlestown, PA, seven grandchildren and three great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by five siblings; Romaine Wallick, Evelyn Yingling, Pauline Harner, Richard Boyd and Alton Boyd.
A service to celebrate the life of Virginia B. Hofe will be held at 11:00am Saturday, from St. James Lutheran Church, 109 York St., Gettysburg, with Rev. Jeanette Leisk officiating. A time to share memories with the family and an opportunity to view will be from 10:00 am until the 11:00am service, Saturday at the Church. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery, Gettysburg.
