Obituary

Thomas Jerome Askins, Sr. 53, of Gettysburg passed peacefully on Friday, September 5, 2014 at home surrounded by his family. He was the loving companion of 19 years to Paula Ray, Gettysburg.

He was born May 15, 1961 in Baltimore the son of the late Raymond Askins and Dorothy Virginia (Rhuebottom) Cook.

Thomas was employed for many years with West End Service, Ellicott City, MD. After moving to Gettysburg, he was employed with Knouse Foods, Quebecor and most recently the Blue and Gray Bar and Grill. He was a loving father and friend who enjoyed watching football, especially the Baltimore Ravens and playing poker.

In addition to his companion, he is survived by his children, Thomas J. Askins, Jr., and Nathaniel Askins both of Howard County, MD, Christopher Ray, Keith Thomas Askins and Carmen Ray, all of Gettysburg; five brothers; two grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his sisters, Dorothea Cook and Norma Jean Powell.

A memorial service will be held Sunday, September 14, 2014 at 3 PM at the Peters Funeral Home, 321 Carlisle Street, Gettysburg with Pastor Dan Kriel officiating. A time to share memories with the family will be on Sunday from 2 PM until the time of the service at the funeral home.
