Obituary

Gettysburg, PA – Sue Henderson, a resident of Gettysburg for many years, passed away peacefully at her home on February 19, 2026. She was 80 years old. Born on October 3rd, 1945, in Ashland, Ohio, Sue was the daughter of the late Harold and Nina Mendenhall.

Sue's professional life included a rewarding career in both finance and marketing, but it was her involvement with her church, Trinity United Church of Christ, that brought her fulfillment and reflected her heart for service. Sue generously gave her time and talents to support the church's various ministries and activities. She served multiple terms on the Consistory Committee, including as President, and also several years on the Gettysburg Association of the UCC's Committee on Ministry. Her presence and contributions within the church community will be deeply missed.

Sue had many hobbies that she held close to her heart. Among them was quilting, crafting, and photography. Her home was full of handmade treasures, many of which were gifted to those she loved.

Family was the cornerstone of Sue's life. She is survived by her loving husband, David A. Churchill. Together they rediscovered the joy of companionship, quiet moments, long conversations, and spontaneous adventures. In each other's company, they found comfort, laughter, and the steady reassurance that it's never too late to begin a new chapter.

She leaves behind a beautiful legacy in her four children: her daughter, Lisa Haasz of Elkins Park, PA; and three sons, Seth Henderson (Dorothea) of Annapolis, MD, David Rainey (Shelley), of Davidson, NC, and Chad Henderson (Kristina), of North Canton, OH. She was an adoring grandmother to her nine grandchildren, who brought her immense pride and joy. Also included in her extended family are her two stepchildren, Wendy Favia (Frank) of Pearl River, NY and Dave Churchill (Pam) of Easton, KS, and her sister, Doris Chesrown (Norm) of Dublin, OH.

Sue was preceded in death by her husband, Larry D. Henderson, with whom she built a life and family, her sister, Ann Behrendsen, and her son in law, John Haasz.

A memorial service to celebrate Sue's life will be held at 10:30 am on Saturday, March 28, 2026, at Trinity United Church of Christ, 60 E High St, Gettysburg, PA.
