Shirley G. Miller, 79, of Biglerville, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 24, 2026 under hospice care at the Gettysburg Hospital after a brief illness.

Born in Gettysburg, she was the daughter of the late Spener F. and Grace (Walker) Hoak. She was the loving wife of Donald L. Miller for 52 years. She also leaves behind two sons, Dr. Eric Tauscher of Columbus, Georgia, Todd Tauscher of Biglerville; stepchildren, Vickie Miller of Gettysburg and Donald Miller Jr. and companion Diane of Biglerville; eight grandchildren; six great-grandchildren, as well as a brother, Gene Hoak and wife Judith of Ellicott City, MD, plus many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by a brother, James Hoak. Also survived by sisters-in-law Nancy Shellaman of Orrtanna, Jeanie Cole (George) of Biglerville and Linda Miller of Littlestown.

Shirley was a 1964 graduate of Gettysburg High School. Her love of animals started as a little girl being raised on a farm and grew into a life-long mission of caring for and saving countless lives after working for veterinarian, Dr. Ralph Jackson in Gettysburg back in the 1960s and 1970s. She later retired from Herff Jones after 26 years of service. Her job title as a “stripper” always raised eyebrows and came with lots of humor and stories. Then, she surprised everyone by getting her CDL and joining Don on the road driving coast-to-coast as a husband-and-wife team.

Shirley’s kind heart became a blessing to others when she drove a transport bus for the elderly and the devoted role of being a care-giver when needed most. She leaves behind 10 cats and 3 dogs that she treated like children, especially her Itty Bitty. She enjoyed cooking, spoiling her pets and feeding the squirrels and critters. Plus, she had a passion for reading and watching anything to do with crime-mystery stories.

Funeral services will be privately held by the family.
