Obituary

SPC Shaun Ryan Huff, 24, of Biglerville died unexpectedly on Monday, February 25, 2013 while stationed at Fort Drum, NY.

He was born April 20, 1988 in Gettysburg the son of Mary E. (McKelvey) Huff and her husband Phil, Biglerville and Gene E. Huff, Sr., Maryland.

Shaun graduated from Biglerville High School in 2006 and was employed with Wal-Mart, Gettysburg until 2008 at which time he enlisted in the United States Army. He attended One Station Unit Training at Fort Benning, Georgia. Upon the completion of his training, he was assigned to the 172d Infantry Brigade, Grafenwöehr, Germany.

In November 2008, Shaun deployed with 172d Infantry Brigade as a Rifleman. He deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom until November 2009. In June 2010, Shaun was assigned to 1st Battalion 32d Infantry Battalion, 3d Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division (Light Infantry), Fort Drum, New York. He deployed with 10th Mountain Division in support of Operation Enduring Freedom from March 2011 to March 2012, Shaun served as a grenadier. Shaun's awards and decorations include: the Army Commendation Medal, the Army Good Conduct Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, the Iraqi Campaign Medal, the Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Overseas Service Ribbon, the North Atlantic Treaty Organization Medal, and the Combat Infantryman's Badge.

In addition to his parents and step-father, he is survived by his brother, Gene E. Huff, Jr., Biglerville, nephews, Landon and Justin Huff, Gettysburg, paternal grandfather, Paul Huff, Sr., New Oxford, maternal grandmother, Josephine McKelvey, Gettysburg, cousin and best friend, Zach Huff, Orrtanna and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by grandparents, Betty Huff, Goldie Huff and William McKelvey and cousins Leroy and Nicole Huff.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at 11 AM at the Peters Funeral Home, 321 Carlisle Street, Gettysburg with Pastor Bob Gray officiating. A time to share memories and an opportunity to view will be on Tuesday from 6 to 9 PM and on Wednesday from 10 AM until the time of the service at the funeral home. Full military honors will be conducted Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Gettysburg.
