Cool, Sr.

Born February 13, 1922 in Emmitsburg, he was a son of the late John H. and Grace I. (Herring) Cool.
A veteran of the U.S. Navy, Mr. Cool served his country honorably during World War II. He was employed with the Gettysburg Shoe Factory for over 25 years and, later, BAE Systems (formerly BMY) in Thomasville for 13 years.
Mr. Cool was a member of Mt. Carmel United Methodist Church in Orrtanna. He was also a life member of the Adams County Fish and Game as well as the Buchanan Valley Rod and Gun Club. In his free time, he enjoyed fishing and gardening.
Surviving are four sons, Samuel F. Cool, Jr. and his wife Linda of Fairfield, Bradley S. Cool and his wife Susie of Gettysburg, Ronald Cool and his wife Brenda of York, and Brian Cool and Barbara of Gardners; three brothers, Russell Cool of Gettysburg, John Cool of Biglerville, and Daniel Cool of Hanover; one sister, Sarah Schachle of Molino, FL; five grandchildren, Virginia Wheeler, Jessica Cool, Mandy Cool, Jennifer Dayhoff, and Brandon Cool; and three great-grandchildren, Christopher Toscano, Nicolas Toscano, and Sebastian Toscano.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Grant Cool and Albert Cool; and two sisters, Betty Lawrence and Goldie Huff.
The funeral service will be held 1:30 p.m. Monday, January 25, 2010 at the Peters Funeral Home, 321 Carlisle St., Gettysburg with Rev. Suzanne A. Elliott officiating. A viewing will be held between 7 and 9 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. A second viewing will begin 12:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens where full military honors will be provided Adams County Allied Veterans Council.
Serving as pallbearers will be Samuel F. Cool, Jr., Bradley S. Cool, Ronald Cool, Brian Cool, Craig Cool, and Dale Wampler.
