Herring
May 12, 1921 — Jan 24, 2009
Born May 12, 1921 in Harrisburg, she was a daughter of the late Phillip C. and Mary (Mills) Aldinger.
Mrs. Herring was a member of Grace Lutheran Church, Two Taverns, where she was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary. She graduated from Biglerville High School with the class of 1940. A homemaker throughout most of her life, Mrs. Herring was an excellent seamstress who loved crocheting and making crafts for family and friends. She was a great cook, and her family always looked forward to her Thanksgiving dinners. In her free time, Mrs. Herring loved bowling, puzzling, and following the Baltimore Orioles. Most important, though, was her family, and she was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, are two sons, Ronald E. Herring and wife Barbara of Gettysburg, and Michael L. Herring and wife Patricia L. of Gettysburg; her daughter, Patricia L. Musselwhite of Thurmont; one brother, Stanley K. Aldinger of York Springs; two sisters, Susan Pope of Harrisburg, and Betty Gilbreath of Harrisburg; four grandchildren, Randall Herring, Deann Lehman, Michael L. Herring, Jr., and Tonya L. Herring; and six great-grandchildren, Brian Lehman, Thomas Lehman, Matthew Lehman, Allison Herring, Lauren Herring, and Wyatt Michael Herring.
She was preceded in death by a brother, Phillip C. Aldinger, Jr.; and one sister, Mary Smallwood.
The funeral service will be held 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, January 27, 2009 at Christ Chapel of Gettysburg College, located on the corner of North Washington St. and Stevens St., with Rev. Paul Haack officiating. Viewing will be held between 9:30 and 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the chapel. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens. The Peters Funeral Home, 321 Carlisle St., Gettysburg, is in charge of arrangements.
Serving as pallbearers will be Deann Lehman, Randall Herring, Michael Herring, Jr., Tonya Herring, Gary Herring, and Craig Lambert.
For those desiring, contributions may be made in Mrs. Herring's memory to the American Heart Association, PO Box 3293, Gettysburg, PA 17325.
