Rose M. (Rosensteel) Hess age 91, previously of New Oxford died at The Gardens of Gettysburg on Tuesday, October 27, 2026. She was the beloved wife of the late Pius O. Hess, Sr. whom she married on December 24, 1954.

Born June 7, 1935 in Gettysburg, she was the daughter of the late John D. and Clara C. (Bricker) Rosensteel.

She retired from Quality Inn in Gettysburg. She loved to dance, work in her yard, keep tabs on her children and was an avid Elvis fan.

Mrs. Hess is survived by three daughters: Jean Taylor (Gary) of Gettysburg, Lisa Wonder (Roger) of New oxford and Sherry Youngbar (Ken) of New Oxford; five grandchildren: Toby Taylor (Nour) of Vienna VA, Tammy Taylor of Mechanicsburg, Barbie Marks of McSherrystown, Nikki Wonder (Zach) of New Oxford. and Connor Youngbar of New Oxford; five great-grandchildren: Dreyton Marks, Jacob Baker, Diamond Taylor, Michael Baker and Deagan Marks, as well as many loving nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Pius O. Hess, Jr.; five sisters: Genevieve Shriver, Maragaret Rosensteel, Catherine Rosensteel, Louise Wildasin and Pat Gardenhour and two brothers, George and Tom Rosensteel.

A Funeral Mass to celebrate Rose’s life will be held at 11am on Wednesday, November 4th at St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church; 25 W. High St. in Gettysburg with Rev. Timothy D. Marcoe officiating.
