Robert A. Wood, 73 of Gettysburg, passed away peacefully on Saturday, April 04, 2015 at home. He was the loving husband of Sandra L. (Keim) Wood of Gettysburg.
Born May 21, 1941 in Sparrows Point, MD, he was a son of the late Thomas Robert and Dorothy Elizabeth
(Ewing) Wood.
Robert spent most of his life serving as a volunteer fire fighter. His early years began with Sparrows Point and Wise Avenue Volunteer Fire Companies in Maryland. Upon relocating to Pennsylvania, he became a member of the Bonneauville Community Fire Company. He proudly served as an ambulance driver, truck driver and Assistant Chief. He attained life member status in 2002. Robert was an avid baseball fan, especially of the Baltimore Orioles. You could find him cheering for his O's at the stadium, and in his living room. Other than his family, Robert's greatest love was a pintsized Boston Terrier named Daisy. He gave her 13 wonderful years, and she preceded him in death by just three short months.
In addition to his wife Robert is survived by two children, daughter, Jacqueline L. Coffelt of Gettysburg; a son, Robert N. Wood and his wife Molly of New Oxford; four grandchildren, Rebekah J. Smith and her husband Cody of Biglerville, William P. Coffelt of Biglerville, Thomas N. Wood of New Oxford, Amanda J. Wood of New Oxford; one great granddaughter, Bailee J. Smith; a sister, Elizabeth Ann Herrera of Concord, NC, and many loving nieces, nephews, and extended family members.
In addition to his parents, Robert was preceded in death by brothers Joseph, James, and Regis, and sisters, Janice, Mary, and Bertha.
A service to celebrate the life of Robert A. Wood will be held at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, April 8, 2015 at Peters Funeral Home, 321 Carlisle St., Gettysburg, PA with Pastor John Largen officiating. A time to share memories with the family and an opportunity to view will be on Tuesday from 6 to 8 p.m. and then again on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Gettysburg.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Robert's memory to the Visiting Nurse Association of Hanover and Spring Grove, 440 Madison St, Hanover, PA 17331, or to St Luke's Lutheran Church, 330 White Hall Rd, Littlestown, PA 17340.
