Obituary

Robert Fritz Weikert, 80 of Hanover and formerly of McKnightstown , peacefully entered into eternal rest on Friday, December 30, 2011 at the Gettysburg Center. He was the loving husband of Emma Jean "Jeannie" (Phillips) Weikert, Hanover. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ann E. Raffensperger and his second wife, Mabel I. Ford. He was born September 15, 1931 in Table Rock the son of the late George Robert and Anna Mae (Fritz) Weikert.

Mr. Weikert graduated from Biglerville High School where he was an outstanding football player on both offense and defense and was the team's punter. A skilled carpenter, he worked for the Feaga and McDonnell construction companies, Gettysburg and later retired from Gettysburg College where he was a cabinet maker. He was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing. Mr. Weikert was a member of Mt. Hope United Methodist Church, Fairfield; the Adams County Fish and Game Association and a life member of the NRA.

He is survived by his children, Carolann Schmitt and her husband Don, Gettysburg; John Robert Weikert and his wife Deborah, Waynesboro, step children, Diane Weaver, Lake Meade; Ted Toomey and his wife Barbara, Bonneauville; Sharon Maust and her husband Bill, York Springs; Shirley Miller and her husband Jeff, East Berlin; Julie Cornbower and her husband Dennis, Hanover; Lori Wallen and her husband Trevor Reck, East Berlin, sister, Joyce E. Groff and her husband Kenneth R., Sr., Gettysburg, grandchildren, James M. Weikert and his wife Michelle, Burke, VA; Christopher D. Weikert and his wife Kelly, Waynesboro; Larry Weaver, Jr. and his wife Amy, Lake Meade; Shawn Weaver, San Antonio, TX; Robin Ports and her husband James, Hanover; Kim Clark and her husband Glenn, San Antonio, TX, four great grandchildren, nine step grandchildren and eight step great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his brother Myles Weikert and sisters Mildred Mummert; Pauline O'Connor and Ethel Wetzel.

A memorial service to celebrate the life of Robert Weikert will be on Wednesday, January 4, 2012 at 7:30 PM at the Peters Funeral Home, 321 Carlisle Street, Gettysburg with Pastor Kim Phillips officiating. The family will receive friends from 6PM until the time of the service at the funeral home.
