Robert A. Shindledecker, 95 of Cashtown, passed away unexpectedly on Friday, June 16, 2017 at home. He was the loving husband of the late Marian R. (Hays) Shindledecker who passed away on January 22, 2012.

Born Wednesday, July 6, 1921 in Gettysburg, he was a son of the late Charles E. and Bertha (Shultz) Shindledecker.

Robert was a loving father, grandfather and great grandfather; he loved his family and cherished the time he spent with them. Robert was a lifelong member of the Cashtown Community Fire Department; in his free time he enjoyed hunting and fishing, but most of all he enjoyed tending to his vegetable garden.

Mr. Shindledecker is survived by, a daughter, Dorothy "Dottie" Harris and her husband Ron, New Oxford, granddaughter, Lisa R. Hewitt, Cashtown; grandson, Ron L. Shultz, Jr. and his wife Lisa, Cashtown; five great grandchildren, Alex Hewitt, Anthony Hewitt, Justin Shultz, Staci Shultz, Kyle Baker, and three great great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents and wife, Robert was preceded in death by three siblings, Glen Shindledecker, Betty Riggeal, and Merle Shindledecker.

A service to celebrate the life of Robert A. Shindledecker will be held at 11a.m. on Wednesday, June 21, 2017 at the Peters Funeral Home, 321 Carlisle St., Gettysburg, PA with Pastor Kim Phillips officiating. A time to share memories with the family and an opportunity to view will be on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Gettysburg.

In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in Robert's memory to Cashtown Community Fire Department, 1069 Old Rte. 30, Cashtown, PA 17310.
