Robert William Edling, Sr., 75, of Gettysburg and formerly of Schuylkill County, entered into God's eternal care Thursday, December 9, 2010 at his residence. He was the husband of Gayle (Snyder) Edling, who died September 10, 1998.
Born October 28, 1935 in Schuylkill Haven, he was a son of the late William and Ellenora (Weber) Donton Edling.
Mr. Edling was a veteran of the US Air Force having served his country honorably during the Korean War. After attending Girard College in Philadelphia, he was employed by Sears as an office manager and, later, appliance repairman throughout parts of Pennsylvania and Maryland. He also worked with Henkels and McCoy doing contract electrical work for the Nigerian Government.
In his free time, Mr. Edling enjoyed Civil War history, trains, computers, reading Shakespeare, and playing chess.
Surviving are five children, Robert William Edling, Jr. of Indiana, Kim Edling of Virginia, Mark Douglas Webb of Marble Falls, TX, Ruth Gold of Orrtanna, and Candace Bush of Mannassas, VA; five sisters, Neida Ford, Eleanor Mason, Annmarie Donton, Joann Schuster, all of Pottsville, and Millie Bachert of New Philadelphia, PA; his brother, Clayton Donton of Pottsville; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and his companion, Nancy Grimes of Waynesboro.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Glenn Edling; and two sisters, Laura Lukach and Oleda Hardy.
The funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Wednesday, December 15 at the Peters Funeral Home, 321 Carlisle St., Gettysburg, with Rev. Jay E. Zimmerman officiating. A viewing will be held beginning 10 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery where full military honors will be provided by the Adams County Allied Veterans Honor Guard.
