Obituary

Robert C. Cleveland Jr., 92, of Gettysburg, went home to be with his heavenly Father on Thursday, June 2nd, 2011. Born June 17, 1918, he was the son of the late Robert C. and Ada (Bream) Cleveland. He is survived by his wife, Linda (Kooken) Cleveland to whom he married in 1988.

Bob was preceded in death by two brothers, J. Marshall Cleveland and G. Merle Cleveland and one sister Jean (Cleveland) Lewis. He is survived by three stepchildren, Lou Ann Miller of York Springs, John "Jay"Allison of Biglerville and Terri L. Klinedinst of Hanover and their families. Also surviving are three nephews, Roger Lewis and William Cleveland of Gettysburg and Gerald Cleveland of Florida and these nieces Doris (Cleveland) Trussell, Lancaster, Phyllis (Cleveland) Smith of Michigan, Elaine (Lewis) Johnson, Washington State, Linda (Lewis) Karper, Biglerville and Karen (Lewis) Arentz of Gettysburg and their families.

Mr. Cleveland was born and raised on the family farm in Straban Township, which remained in the family for five generations. Besides farming he drove a school bus for fourteen years for the Gettysburg Area School District. In 1976 he started the Castle Hill Mobile Home Park on part of the farm. He also raised registered Beegles to sell for show, hunting and pets. He was an avid hunter and enjoyed gardening and being with family and friends. He had a heart for the American Indians and enjoyed reading about them and finding local artifacts. Bob was a member of the South Mountain Engine Club and enjoyed showing two of his refurbished Ford tractors for several years and took great pleasure in visiting his mountain retreat near Great Cacapon West Virginia for many years.

A memorial service will be held on Monday June 6th at 11:00 A.M. at Gettysburg Baptist Church, 95 Fairview Rd. Gettysburg with Pastors William and Ty Mummert officiating. The family will receive friends at the church from 10:00 to 11:00 A.M. There will be no viewing. Following the service burial will be in the Biglerville Cemetery. Serving as pallbearers will be William Arentz, Gene Niswander, Roger Lewis, William Cleveland, Clifford Cleveland and Thomas Clowney.

The Peters Funeral Home, 321 Carlisle Street, Gettysburg is in charge of the arrangements. Contributions in Cleveland's memory may be made to St. Joseph's Indian School, Box 100, Chamberlain, S.D. 57326 or to a benefit of choice.
