Obituary

Richard "Dick" W. France, Sr., 80, of Littlestown and formerly of Glen Burnie, MD, passed peacefully on Friday, January 14, 2022 at home with his family by his side.  He was the loving husband of Dolores G. (Eward) France, Littlestown; together they shared 59 years of marriage.

Born March 4, 1941 in Baltimore, MD, he was the son of the late Edgar L. and Dorothy (Gilpin) France.

Dick owned and operated Southgate Hair Designers in the Southgate Shopping Center in Glen Burnie, MD from its opening in 1971 until he sold the business in 1998.  He served in the U.S. Navy and was a former active member of the Harundale Presbyterian Church, Glen Burnie, MD where he served as an ordained Deacon.  Dick was an avid motorcyclist and active member of the Gold Wing Road Riders Association for 40 years during which he served many positions including Regional Director.  He and Dolores traveled to over 40 states on their Gold Wing.

He enjoyed trap shooting at the Anne Arundel Fish and Game Conservation Association and was a life member of the Elks and American Legion.  Dick was also a licensed realtor in Anne Arundel County for over 10 years.

In addition to his wife, he is survived by his daughter, Cynthia K. France and husband Gregory M. Dohler, Baltimore, MD; son, Richard W. France, Jr. and wife Anita Sordillo, Aberdeen, MD; sisters, Dottie France-Hankins, Glen Burnie, MD, Carol Rummel, Crossville, TN, Chris Watson, Glen Burnie, MD and Joyce France Ragusa, Melbourne, FL; grandchildren, Heather Kazmierski, Pasadena, MD, Richard W. France, III, Abingdon, MD, Tiffanie Campbell, Pasadena, MD and Ben France, Aberdeen, MD and great grandchildren, Raylan Kazmierski and Luke Campbell both of Pasadena, MD.

He was preceded in death by his sister Lois Mitchel and brother Edgar L. France, Jr.

A graveside service with full military honors will be held on Friday, January 21, 2022 at 2 PM at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery with Rev. Ricky McCarl officiating.  A celebration of life service will be held in the Spring.
