Richard A. "Sarge" Cullison, 69, of Biglerville, passed away Monday, September 29, 2014 at Holy Spirit Hospital, Camp Hill. He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia (Christopher) Cullison who died in 2000 and is survived by his second wife, Velma M. (Reaver) Cullison, Biglerville.
He was born March 21, 1945 in Hanover, the son of the late Richard M. and Dorothy L. (Buchen) Cullison.
Sarge served during the Vietnam Conflict and was the local Army recruiter in Gettysburg. He retired from the U.S. Army in 1984 after 22 years of service and he received an Associate's Degree from the University of Maryland. Following his military career, he worked at National Furniture, Hanover, owned and operated Shippensburg Furniture and later managed Highway Oil, Gettysburg for 12 years.
His memberships include St. Luke's Lutheran Church, Littlestown; life member of VFW Post 15, Gettysburg; Fairfield AMVETS; Blue Ridge Sportsman's Club; American Legion Post 202, Gettysburg; Gettysburg Eagles 1562 and the Waynesboro Moose.
In addition to his second wife, he is survived by his daughters, Chantel M. Thomas and husband Mark, Mechanicsburg, Barbara J. Yeager and husband Keith, Fannettsburg and Monique R. Weaver and husband James, Fayetteville; five grandchildren; sisters, Mary Lee Cullison, Millsboro, DE and Patricia Heberling and husband Carl, Littlestown; sister-in-law, Vivian Cullison, Hanover and step-daughters, Kathy Copenhaver, Biglerville and Maryann Wivell and husband Chris, Fairfield.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Michelle Cullison and brothers, Michael W. and Larry D. Cullison.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 2, 2014 at 10 AM at the Peters Funeral Home, 321 Carlisle Street, Gettysburg with Rev. Laura Haupt officiating. A time to share memories with the family and an opportunity to view will be on Wednesday from 6 to 8 PM and again on Thursday from 9 AM until the time of the service at the funeral home. Burial with full military honors will be in Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville.
