Richard Lewis Koch, 86, of New Oxford died Monday, April 19, 2010 surrounded by his family. He was the loving husband of Jean (Getty) Koch, of New Oxford, with whom he celebrated their 63rd wedding anniversary on April 4th.
He was born on October 2, 1923 in Elco, Nevada, the son of the late Lewis B. and Olive (Burdick) Koch.
Richard was raised in Challis, Idaho, where he was valedictorian of his high school class and later was valedictorian when he graduated from the University of Idaho. He served his country faithfully in the U.S. Navy during WW II and was employed for 50 years with General Electric. During his time with General Electric, he designed 19 patents and was responsible for the propulsion systems on various Navy ships and Chevron oil tankers.
He was an avid gardener and fisherman. After his retirement, he enjoyed farming and was instrumental in establishing the Kabar Farms in New Oxford with his daughter Katrina.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Katrina McClelland of New Oxford and her former husband Edward, Kristine Lundstrom and her husband George of Scotia, NY, Kolleen DeGraff and her husband Jerry of Galway, NY, and Raymond Koch of New Oxford; four grandsons, Richard Williams, Daniel McClelland, Christopher McClelland and Laif Lundstrom; and two great grandsons, Alex DeGraff and Tylor Williams.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Marci McClelland.
A service to celebrate Richard's life will be on Thursday, April 22, 2010 at 2:00 p.m. at Living Hope Presbyterian Church, 155 Early Ave., Gettysburg, PA with Rev. John Van Meerbeke officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 until 8 p.m. on Wednesday at the Peters Funeral Home, 321 Carlisle Street, Gettysburg and on Thursday from 1 p.m. until the time of the service at the church. Burial with full military honors provided by the Adams County Allied Veterans Council will be in St. John's U.C.C. Cemetery, New Chester.
