Richard James Cole, 88, of Gettysburg, passed away Wednesday, May 15, 2019 at home. He was the loving husband of Carol (Bolt) Cole, Gettysburg. They would have celebrated 65 years of marriage on September 18 th .
He was born April 28, 1931 in Arcade, NY, the son of the late Roland and Loretta (Eggert) Cole.
Richard served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War and was a manager with McCrory's Department Store for 42 years. After retiring, he and his wife owned and operated Fiddle Faddles and Crying Necessities on Chambersburg Street in Gettysburg for 20 years. An accomplished woodworker, he made many birdhouses and other items for the store. Richard enjoyed mowing his lawn and gardening with his wife.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his children, Stephanie Hiester and husband Richard, Manassas, VA, Andrew Cole, Hagerstown, MD and Richard Cole, Jr. and wife Jane, Delaware; sister, Beverly Stevenson, Falls Church, VA; grandchildren, Michelle Cole, Matthew Cole, Jessica Cole, Christopher Cole, Meghan Cole Amy Cole and Kyle Hiester and four great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his daughter-in-law, Melanie Cole.
