Obituary

Phyllis M. (Runk) Caruso, 89 of Hanover passed away peacefully at Homewood at Plum Creek on Tuesday, January 14, 2025.  She was the beloved wife of Kenneth "Skip" Watson who passed away in 1963, then of Frank "Skip" Caruso from 1968 until his passing in 2011.

Born September 20, 1935 in Hanover, she was a daughter of the late Roy V. and Delores C. (Bolin) Runk.

In her early life, Mrs. Caruso was a laborer at the Dillsburg Shoe Factory, Sylvania Shoe Factory in McSherrystown and the East Berlin Shoe Factory.  She then raised her children as a home maker.  She loved animals, especially her cats, and she also enjoyed arts and crafts with her sisters.

Phyllis is survived by two children: Wesley A. Watson and his wife Star of East Berlin and Perry L. Watson and his partner Barb of Dover; two grandchildren: Laine VanAtta and her husband James of East Berlin and Lacy Watson and her boyfriend Jake of Abbottstown; two great-grandchildren: Lily Crane and Jebb Crane; five siblings: Barbara Sherman and her husband Glenn of New Oxford, Donna Shellhammer and her husband Richard of East Berlin, Linda Fetter, Larry Runk and Gerald Runk.

In addition to her two late husbands and her parents, she was preceded in death by two children: Gwen Kuhn and Bradley Watson, as well as by seven siblings: Victor, Kenneth, Gary, Gene, Ronald, Wayne and Shirley.

A funeral service to celebrate Phyllis' life will be held at 12noon on Saturday, January 18th at Peters Funeral Home, Inc.; 321 Carlisle St. in Gettysburg with Fr. Michael Pray officiating.  Interment will follow in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens in Gettysburg.  A time to gather and share memories will also be on Saturday at the funeral home from 11am until the start of the service.
