Michael Haverlock, 93, a resident of Homewood at Plum Creek, Hanover, for the past eight years and a longtime resident of Gettysburg, died Sunday, July 11, 2010. He was the husband of Helen (Storm) Haverlock, who died November 1, 1996.
Born February 6, 1917 in Osceola Mills, PA, Mr. Haverlock was raised in Jersey City, NJ. He received an Associates Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Newark College of Engineering. Throughout his 45 year career, he held technical and managerial positions at Westinghouse Elevator in New Jersey before coming to the Gettysburg plant in 1968 until his retirement in 1982.
Mr. Haverlock was an avid golfer, traveling all over the world with the International Golfing Fellowship of Rotary. He reached his 55 year anniversary as a Master Mason in 2009 and was a member of the Zembo Shrine Temple in Harrisburg, the Adams County Shrine Club, the Gettysburg Lions Club, and the Gettysburg Rotary. He also served as an Elder and Trustee in the Gettysburg Presbyterian Church and served many charities in the Adams County area.
He is survived by three daughters, Nancy Bailin and her husband David of Mendham, NJ, Susan DelMastro of San Diego, CA, and Janet Corsini and her husband Gary of Narragansett, RI; three grandchildren, Kevin DelMastro of San Diego, Kylie Bailin of Sydney, Australia, and Christine DelMastro of San Diego; and a brother, Steven Haverlock of Jersey City, NJ.
A memorial service will be held 2:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 14 in the chapel at Homewood At Plum Creek, 425 Westminster Ave., Hanover, with Chaplain Joel Hummel officiating. The family will receive friends beginning at 1:30 p.m. After donating his body to Humanity Gifts Registry, burial will take place in Evergreen Cemetery, Gettysburg. Arrangements are under the direction of the Peters Funeral Home, Gettysburg.
