Melvin A. Crushong, 81 of Gettysburg passed peacefully on Saturday, March 10, 2012 at Gettysburg Center Genesis Health.
He was born June 12, 1931 in Bonneauville the son of the late Charles J.A. and Carrie E. (Herring) Crushong.
Mel served his country faithfully with the United States Air Force as a staff sergeant during the Korean War. He was employed with Battlefield Earth Movers for 17 years and retired from C.E. Williams after 24 years of service as a paver operator. After retiring, he worked for several years at the Peters Funeral Home, Gettysburg. He was a life member of the Gettysburg ELKS #1045, a life member of the Adams County Fish and Game Assoc. and was a 46 year member of the American Legion Post 121, Emmitsburg, MD. His other memberships included the Gettysburg Eagles #1562, the Gettysburg Moose #1526, the Gettysburg VFW Post 15 and the Fairfield AMVETS Post 172.
He is survived by his children, Dennis Crushong and his wife Deb, Spring Grove, Jeffrey Crushong, Gettysburg and Mary Sue Stewart and her husband Dave, Fairfield, brother, Wilbur Crushong, Gettysburg, four grandchildren, five great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
A service to celebrate Mel's life will be on Wednesday, March 14, 2012 at 11 AM at the Peters Funeral Home, 321 Carlisle Street, Gettysburg with Pastor Dale Williams officiating. A time to share memories and an opportunity to view will be on Wednesday from 10 AM until the time of the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Rest Haven Cemetery, Hanover.
