Obituary

Melanie Sue Auten, 47, of Edmond, Oklahoma and formerly of Gettysburg passed away unexpectedly on February 11, 2014 at her home.

She was born December 12, 1966 in Hanover the daughter of Sherman E. Snyder, Sr., McSherrystown and the late Patricia (Curfman) Snyder.

Melanie graduated from Gettysburg Senior High School and was employed for more than 20 years at the Gettysburg Hospital. After moving to Oklahoma, she was employed at Mercy Hospital in Oklahoma City. Melanie was a member of the Gettysburg Eagles, A.B.A.T.E. and enjoyed boating on the Chesapeake Bay.

In addition to her father, Melanie is survived by her brothers and sister, Sherman Snyder, Jr. and wife Anita, Gettysburg; Hubert Snyder and wife Elaine, Midway; William Snyder and wife Sandy, Gettysburg; Randy Snyder and wife Lisa, Edmond, Oklahoma and Shelve Keiser and husband Randy, Reinholds, PA; many nieces and nephews and her loving dogs, Bear and Griz.

She was preceded in death by her brother, James Snyder.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 20, 2014 at 11 AM at the Peters Funeral Home, 321 Carlisle Street, Gettysburg with Rev. Jason Myers and Rev. Tony Patterson officiating. The family will receive friends and share memories on Wednesday from 6 to 8 PM and on Thursday from 10 to 11 AM at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Gettysburg. Serving as pallbearers will be Jonathan Snyder; Jason Snyder; Hubert Snyder, Jr.; Roy Snyder; David Snyder and David Chohany.

Contributions in memory of Melanie Auten may be made to Victory Baptist Church, 25 Breezewood Drive, Hanover, PA 17331.
