Obituary

Maurice J. Felix, 87, of Gettysburg, passed peacefully Saturday, Sept. 13, 2008, at Golden Living Center, Gettysburg.

Born Feb. 3, 1921 in Gettysburg, he was the son of the late Maurice J. Felix Sr. and Virginia Lucy (Riley) Felix McKinney.

Mr. Felix was a World War II U.S. Army Air Force veteran, having served in the Pacific Theater of operations. He was employed as an equipment operator for the U. S. government. Maurice was a life member of Post 121 Francis X. Elder American Legion, Post 15 VFW, Gettysburg, Blue Ridge Sportsman Club, North American Hunting Club of Minnesota and the NRA. Mr. Felix was a beloved father, grandfather, companion and friend. He loved playing cards, telling life stories, hunting and wildlife and working and fixing items with his hands. Maurice was known to many for his mechanical skills, especially in small engine repair.

Surviving are three daughters, Marcia A. Hawk and her husband Charles W., Gettysburg; Cindy Droze and her husband Jimmy, Summerville, S.C.; Dorothy C. "Dori" John, New Oxford; his companion Mary V. Lantz and her children Franklin Lantz and Patricia Minnich; five grandchildren, Holly Campbell, Holly Hill, S.C.; Adam Hawk and his wife Shannon, Lancaster; Adrian Hawk, Gettysburg; Julian and Zachary Miller, both of New Oxford; 2 great-grandchildren; one sister, Helen Miller, Fayetteville; also three nephews and one niece.

He was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters, John Charles Felix, Mary C. Felix, Ida Mae Kane and Joseph Felix.

A celebration of the life of Maurice will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 17, at the Peters Funeral Home, 321 Carlisle Street, Gettysburg, with Rev. Richard C. Broome, Jr. officiating. An opportunity to share memories of Maurice and view will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Tuesday evening at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Gettysburg. Graveside military honors will be conducted by the Gettysburg Allied Veterans Honor Guard.

Serving as pallbearers will be Adam Hawk, Adrian Hawk, Roy Milne, Grover McCleaf and Milton Lantz.
