Martin L. Myers, 92 of Gettysburg, PA entered his eternal rest at his home on Saturday, August 31st, 2024. Martin was born on September 20, 1931 in Los Angeles, California, the son of the late Dr. Reverend Harold L. Myers and the Reverend Eliza M. (Reese) Myers.
Mr. Myers was predeceased by his wife of 66 years, Grace E. (Olson) Myers who died on September 22, 2017. Martin and Grace were blessed with a trip to Hawaii for their 50th anniversary by their family and friends. They renewed their wedding vows to celebrate their 60th wedding anniversary in 2011.
A graduate of Gettysburg High School in 1950, Martin was very involved in the school's athletic program. He even went on to play semi-pro football for a short time after graduation. Martin was a lifelong member of the Church of the Foursquare Gospel; 328 W. Middle St. in Gettysburg, the church his parents founded in 1934, serving on the church council for many years as an adult. After retiring from Westinghouse and Schindler Elevator Companies as supervisor in the paint division in 1993, Martin and Grace enjoyed wintering in Florida in their RV for several years,
Martin is survived his children: Michael R. Myers and his wife, Cathy of New Providence, PA, Elizabeth A. Buford and her husband J Robert of Lucas, OH and Carole L. Hardman, wife of the late Raymond Jr. of Hanover; 16 grandchildren: Matthew Phelan, Elisha Smith and her husband Al, Elizabeth Dorsey and her husband Chris, Aimee Phelan, Geoffrey Phelan and his wife Breeann, Julie Stone and her husband Daniel, Michael Myers and his wife Jess, David Myers, Jonathan Buford and his wife Katie, Andrew Buford and his wife Tori, Marc Flickinger, Rachel Seibert, Alayna Cruz, Reid-Martin Cruz, Shana Hardman and Raymond Hardman III, Son-in-law, Geoffrey Phelan of Fallbrook, CA, as well as 29 great-grandchildren, one great-great-grandson and many loving nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by his daughter Donna R. Phelan and three sisters: Roberta M. Myers, Ethel L. Olson, Barbara R. Beaver Lookingbill.
A funeral service to celebrate Martin's life will be held on Monday, September 9th, 2024 at 4pm at the Gettysburg Foursquare Church; 328 West Middle St. in Gettysburg with Martin's son, Dr. Michael R. Myers officiating. Interment will follow in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens in Gettysburg. A time to share memories and an opportunity to view will from 6-8 pm on Sunday, September 8th at Peters Funeral Home; 321 Carlisle St. in Gettysburg and again on Monday afternoon at the church from 3pm until the start of the service.
