Martha J. (Foote) Shindledecker, 82 of Gettysburg passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, September 29, 2026. She was the loving wife of Kermit R. Shindledecker; together they built their life and shared 64 years of marriage.

Born May 11, 1944 in Pittsburgh, she was the daughter of the late Robert and Helen (Rout) Foote.

Marty will be fondly remembered as a caring wife, mother, grandmother, and friend who was happiest simply spending time with them. She was a wonderful listener who never sought the spotlight, but was always present when someone needed her. She was Kerm’s biggest supporter and number-one fan, and over the years proudly served as his “pit-crew” as she cheered on his love of drag racing. She also treasured the many car shows they attended together, simply enjoying the time spent by his side. An avid reader, Marty was rarely without a book, taking one with her wherever she went. She spent her life quietly paying attention to the people around her.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by two daughters: Shelle Bennett and husband Michael and Dee Potter, as well as her grandchildren Jessica Bennett Smith and husband Travis, Nicole Lawrence and husband Shawn and great grandchildren, Emma Smith, Addison Smith, Bailey Lawrence, Isabella Lawrence and Cooper Lawrence.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sisters Janet Foote Johnson, Mary Foote Conner and brother Robert “Bobby” Foote.

A celebration of Marty’s life will be held at the Lake Heritage Community Center. 1000 Heritage Drive, Gettysburg PA on Monday, October 12th, 5:00 – 8:00 pm
