Joyce A. (Bowers) Woodward, 77 of Gettysburg passed away at home on Tuesday, July 29, 2025. She was the beloved wife of 47 years to the late David A. Woodward. The couple celebrated 47 wonderful years of marriage until David's passing on August 30th, 2012.

Born September 27, 1947 in Gettysburg, she was a daughter of the late Harry W. and Gladys P. (Chronister) Bowers.

Mrs. Woodward is fondly remembered as a kind-hearted and loving woman who cherished spending time with her family.  She also had a great passion for reading.

Joyce is survived by her son, David R. Woodward and wife Lisa; her granddaughter, Kellsie Woodward and significant other Spencer Race; three siblings: Ila Jean Sellingham and husband Richard, Leroy P. Bowers and wife Geri and Dorothy L. Bigham, as well as many loving nieces, nephews, extended family and friends.

In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her beloved canine companion, Phoebe.

A funeral service to celebrate Joyce's life will be held at 11am on Friday, August 1st at Peters Funeral Home; 321 Carlisle St. in Gettysburg with Rev. Kevin Orewiler officiating. Interment will follow in Biglerville Cemetery.  A time to share memories and an opportunity to view will also be on Friday at the funeral home from 10am until the start of the service.
