Joan M. Sterner, 87, of Gettysburg passed away peacefully on December 21, 2012 at the Gettysburg Lutheran Home where she had been a resident for the past five years.
She was born on June 4, 1925 in Harrisburg, PA to parents Lloyd and Margaret (Wilson) Murtorf. She was the wife of Kermit N. Sterner of Gettysburg, PA, they were married April 16, 1949 and he predeceased her in 1965.
Joan is survived by her three children; Scott and his wife Sue of Lancaster, PA, Kim (Breighner) and her husband Jack of Aspers, PA, and Kevin and his wife Gail of Christiansburg, VA. She is also survived by six grandchildren – Chad Breighner, Erika (Sterner) Baritell, Erin Sterner, Shannon (Breighner) Weaver, Kerry Sterner, and Scott Sterner Jr., plus seven great grand¬children.
The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the Lutheran Home of Gettysburg for their excellent care during Joan's stay there, as well as the Lutheran Home Care and Hospice for the care and support received during her final days.
Peters Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements which will consist of a small, private family grave-site ceremony at Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens in Gettysburg after which she will be laid to rest next to her husband.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks you make a contribution to either the Gettysburg Lutheran Retirement Village at 1075 Old Harrisburg Road in Gettysburg, PA 17325 or the Lutheran Home Care & Hospice Inc. at 260 West High Street in Gettysburg, PA 17325.
