Joan A. Slagle, 80 of Gettysburg, formally of Woodbine, MD passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 01, 2017 at home surrounded by her loving family. She was the loving wife of C. William Slagle; together they shared 61 years of marriage.

Born April 4, 1936 in Glenelg, MD, she was a daughter of the late Albert and Mildred Britton.

Mrs. Slagle was a former employee of Gettysburg College until her retirement. Joan was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, where she served as organist for 19 years and was an active member of the worship committee before transferring her membership to Gettysburg United Methodist Church; she was a member of Gettysburg Senior Acts, where she got to put her acting skills to use and she was a frequent visitor at the Upper Adams Senior Center. Mrs. Slagle was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother; she loved spending time with her family and her grand and great grandchildren were her pride and joy.

In addition to her husband, Joan is survived by five children, Martin Slagle of Gettysburg, Karen Smith and her husband Brent of Gettysburg, Kevin Slagle and his wife Mary Beth of Terre Hill, PA, Glen Slagle of Gettysburg, Ritchie Slagle and his wife Connie of York; nine grandchildren, Brad Kuhn, Melissa DeCola, Katie and Travis Smith, Chad Laughman, Jared Slagle, Sara Hite, Laura and Kelly Slagle; eight great grandchildren, Tyler, Aryanna, Lilah, Emilia, Charlotte, Brady, Gabriella, and Elizabeth.

In addition to her parents, Joan was preceded in death by her one and only sibling Liann Pickett and her husband Stanley.

A time to share memories with the family and an opportunity to view will be on Sunday, March 5, 2017 from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Peters Funeral Home, 321 Carlisle St., Gettysburg, PA and then on Monday from 1:00 p.m. until the time of service at Haight Funeral Home. A service to celebrate the life of Joan will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, March 6, 2017 at Haight Funeral Home, 6416 Sykesville Rd., Eldersburg, MD, with Pastor Jay Zimmerman officiating. Interment will be in Mt. View Cemetery, Marriottsville, MD. Pallbearers will be; Brad Kuhn, Melissa DeCola, Katie and Travis Smith, Chad Laughman, Jared Slagle, Sara Hite, Laura and Kelly Slagle.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Joan's memory to Alzheimer's Association of Greater Pennsylvania, 3544 N. Progress Ave., Suite 205, Harrisburg PA 17110.
