Joan E. Hamberger, 65, of Gettysburg passed away Saturday, May 03, 2014 at Hospice and Community Care, Mount Joy. She was the loving wife of Carl B. Hamberger, Gettysburg her husband of 41 years.
She was born March 9, 1949 in Hanover, the daughter of the late Paul Revere and Bertha (Murren) Bowman.
Joan graduated from Penn State University with a degree in Agricultural Education and was a teacher at Harrisburg Vo-Tech. She was a member of St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, Gettysburg and enjoyed gardening and crocheting. Joan loved spending time with her family and was a big fan of Walt Disney World.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her daughter, Renee Trybula and husband Michael, Waverly, NY; son, Carl Paul Hamberger and wife Amanda, Phillipsburg; sister, Mary Jane Murphy, Richmond, VA and grandchildren, Latasha; Skylair; Kylean and Carl.
She was preceded in death by her sister, Martha Grumbine.
Family and friends will meet at the Peters Funeral Home, 321 Carlisle Street, Gettysburg on Wednesday, May 7 th at 10:30 AM to go in procession to St. Francis Xavier Catholic Church, 22 West High Street, Gettysburg for a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:30 AM with Father Bernardo Pistone as celebrant. A time to share memories and an opportunity to view will be on Tuesday from 7 to 9 PM at the funeral home with a prayer service at 8:00.
Burial will be in St. Francis Xavier Cemetery, Gettysburg. Serving as pallbearers will be Terry Murren; Dave Murren; Craig Bixler; Michael Chronister; Patrick Bowman and Angelo Monteleone.
