Jeremy Dupell, 96, died on December 25, 2015 at Cross Keys Brethren Home in New Oxford, PA. He was born on September 18, 1919 at North Adams, MA, to Herbert Louis Dupell and Ellen Leticia Sullivan Dupell. He attended schools in Williamstown and graduated from Williamstown High School.
Jerry, as he was known to his friends and family, served in the U.S. Army Air Corps in World War II from 1944 to 1946 as a turret gunner with the 793rd Bombardment Squadron as part of the air offensive against Japan in the Pacific Theater. At the conclusion of the war, he returned to Williamstown and learned the skills for being an electrician.
He joined the Buildings and Grounds Department at Williams College 1941 and remained there until his retirement in 1985. He served as head of the college electricians for many years and had lots of interesting stories about the various jobs and repairs performed during those decades. In 2000, Jerry and his wife, Ruth Mary Girard Dupell, moved to live with their daughter, Karen, in Biglerville, PA, where he resided at the time of his death.
Jerry was a member (1946-2000) and past commander of the Walter A. Reuther American Legion Post 152 in Williamstown, MA. After he moved to Pennsylvania he was a member (2000-2015) of the Ira E. Lady American Legion Post 262 in Biglerville. He served for several decades with the Gale Hose Company (volunteer fire department), in Williamstown, MA. He was an avid golfer, playing in the Buildings and Grounds Golf League at Taconic Golf Club for more than three decades. He also loved to fish, especially at Lake Champlain.
Jerry was predeceased by his wife, Ruth, who died in 2013, two sisters, Bereneice Dupell Taylor and Dorothy Dupell Lombard, and a brother, Herbert X. Dupell. He is survived by two daughters, Karen Dupell Drickamer of Biglerville, PA and Christine Dupell Parrett of Montague, MA; four grandchildren, Robert E. Brownsword III, Heather, Melanie, and Jason Scott; five great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.
A memorial gathering and burial will take place in Williamstown, MA at a later date to be arranged by the family.
