Janet S. (Koontz) Lightner, 68, of Gettysburg, entered into God's care Friday, September 10, 2010 at her residence. She was the wife of Terry A. Lightner, her husband of 50 years.
Born September 22, 1941 in Gettysburg, she was a daughter of the late Roy L. and Marguerite S. (Martin) Koontz.
Mrs. Lightner was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Littlestown. Throughout her career, she was employed at number of local souvenir shops, including the former Blue and Grey Museum in Gettysburg. Most recently, she was employed at Weis Market in Gettysburg for ten years until her retirement in 2005.
In her free time, Mrs. Lightner enjoyed playing Bingo, completing word finds and jigsaw puzzles, and antiquing. She cherished the time spent with her family, especially her grandchildren.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, are two sons, Terry A. Lightner, Jr. and his wife Kathy of Gettysburg, and Chris Lightner of Hanover; her daughter, Penny Filus of Hanover; two sisters, Ginger Armacost of Littlestown, and Judy A. Bream of Gettysburg; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
The funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, September 14, 2010 at the Peters Funeral Home, 321 Carlisle St., Gettysburg, with Pastor James Dunlap officiating. Viewing will be held between 6 and 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. A second viewing will begin 10 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens.
Serving as pallbearers will be Michael Lightner, Brian Lightner, Seth Miller, Pete Filus, Terry Robinson, and David Frock. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Zachary Filus and Jeremy Filus.
