On November 3, 2009, the spirit of James R. Orem III, 48, entered into Heaven, by grace, through faith in Jesus Christ at his residence in McSherrystown.

Born May 25, 1961, he was the son of Harry Garrity, of Baltimore, and the late Dolores Ann (Schneehagen) Garrity.

James, well known as Jimmi O., was a dedicated member of the Worship Team at Freedom Valley Worship Center in Gettysburg. He was also active in the Freedom House, the church's addiction rehabilitation group for men. Additionally, Jimmi helped run the sound system during services and served in the maintenance department.

Jimmi graduated from the Baltimore Polytechnic Institute in 1980 where he played on the baseball team. He worked as a welder for many years in the Baltimore area. After moving to Pennsylvania, Jimmi became a resident of the Adams Rescue Mission where he worked his way to become the Night Security Supervisor. He was an avid sports fan who loved supporting the Baltimore Ravens, Baltimore Orioles, and New York Yankees. Jimmi was also a talented artist and songwriter.

Jimmi O. was diagnosed with cancer in 2007. It has been only through the kindness of others that Jimmi received the compassionate care he so deserved.

Surviving, in addition to his father, is his daughter, Michelle; and many close friends, especially Rachael L. Miller, of McSherrystown, his primary caregiver over the past two years.

A memorial service will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, November 9, 2009 at Freedom Valley Worship Center, 3185 York Road, Gettysburg, with Pastor Jeremiah J. Herbert officiating. Burial will be private in the Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery in Reisterstown. The Peters Funeral Home, 321 Carlisle St., Gettysburg, is in charge of arrangements.

Your family and friends will miss you, Jimmi O. You were a real blessing to all of them.
