Obituary

James H. Gardner, 74, of McKnightstown, died peacefully Thursday, March 19, 2009 at Gettysburg Hospital. He was the husband of the late RuthAnn (Miller) Gardner, who died September 19, 1992.

Born January 9, 1935 in Mt. Holly Springs, he was the son of the late Samuel and Ethel (Thompson) Gardner.

Mr. Gardner was employed with Conewago Contractors for over twenty years. He later retired from the Maintenance Department of Gettysburg College. Jim was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served his country honorably during the Korean War. He was a member of many organizations, including the American Legion Post #202 Gettysburg, Gettysburg Moose Lodge #1526, AMVETS Post #172 Fairfield, and the National AARP.

In his free time, Jim enjoyed puzzles and watching sports. A devoted family man, he cherished the time he spent with his family, especially with his granddaughter.

Surviving is his son, Randy Gardner and wife Sandy of Gettysburg; three sisters, Bonnie Noggle and Betty Landis, both of Mt. Holly Springs, and Dixie Group of Florida, his granddaughter, Hannah Gardner; and a number of nieces and nephews.

At Jim's request, a private graveside service will be held in Flohr's Church Cemetery with Rev. Michael E. Allwein officiating. There will be no public viewing. The Peters Funeral Home, 321 Carlisle St., Gettysburg, is in charge of arrangements.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions be made in Jim's memory to the American Heart Association, PO Box 3293, Gettysburg, PA 17325.
