James R. Bewley, 77, of Fairfield, passed away Tuesday, January 9, 2024 at home with his wife by his side.  He was the loving husband of Patricia A. (Bradford) Bewley, Fairfield; together they shared 37 years of marriage.

Born May 21, 1946 in Charleston, WV, he was the son of the late James Oscar and Marion Geneva (Bayless) Bewley.

Jim graduated from Augusta Military Academy, Staunton, VA and attended Embry-Riddle Aeronautical Institute prior to beginning a career in the U.S. Army.  His Army career spanned 22 years, including Crew Chief on a Huey during Vietnam to law enforcement as a Military Policeman and Investigator with the Army Criminal Investigation Division, receiving numerous medals throughout his distinguished career.

He enjoyed sports and the outdoors, especially riding horses, fly fishing and kayaking.  Jim loved all the animals he and his wife opened their home to through the years.

In addition to his wife, Jim is survived by his nieces, Laurie Saunders and husband John, Roanoke, VA and Julie Caldwell and husband Stoke, Charlotte, NC; many great nieces and nephews; sisters-in-law and brothers-in law that he thought the world of.

A celebration of Jim's life will be held at a later date.

The family would like to express their gratitude for the caring and compassionate treatment received from all the staff of the Hematology/Oncology Department at the Martinsburg VA Hospital, Martinsburg, WV.
