Obituary

Isabell G. (Cromer) Smith, 96, of Gettysburg, died Saturday, February 27, 2010 at Green Acres Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was the wife of Richard Lee Smith, who died in August 1967.

Born January 4, 1914 in Gettysburg, she was a daughter of the late Harvey and Daisy (Rhodes) Cromer.

Mrs. Smith was a member of St. James Lutheran Church where she served on a number of committees and taught Sunday School. She was employed at the House of Bender for many years. She was also a devoted homemaker throughout her life. In her free time, Mrs. Smith enjoyed participating in the Green Thumbs Senior Citizens program at the battlefield and the American Heart Association.

Surviving are two sons, Richard M. "Rick" Smith and his wife Jacqueline of Millmont, PA, and Rance M. Smith of Deland, FL; her daughter, Donna S. Hallett and her husband Barry of Holly Hill, FL; her brother, Lloyd Cromer of Gettysburg; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and a large extended family, especially her niece and caregiver, Betty Neely of Gettysburg.

She was preceded in death by three brothers, Cleason Cromer, George Cromer, and Raymond Cromer; and two sisters, Mary Snyder and Rosanna Dubbs.

The funeral service will be held 1:30 p.m. Friday, March 5, 2010 at the Peters Funeral Home, 321 Carlisle St., Gettysburg, with Rev. Jeanette D. Leisk officiating. A viewing will be held between 12:30 and 1:30 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Chad Fouchie, David Patterson, Brian Marshal, George Tolbert, Stephen Tolbert, and Richard L. Smith II.
