Howard E. Smith, Jr.'s Obituary
Howard E. Smith, Jr., 82 of Gettysburg slipped peacefully into eternal rest on Friday June 13, 2008 surrounded by his loving family and friends.
Howard was born January 26, 1926 in Mt. Zion, MD the son of the late Howard E. and Mae Catherine (Kline) Smith.
He graduated from Smithsburg High School, Smithsburg, MD on June 5, 1944. Howard enlisted with the U.S. Army on October 25, 1945 and served during WW II with Company M 15th Infantry. Howard was a life member of the American Legion Post 262, Biglerville, the VFW Post 15, Gettysburg, the Moose Lodge 1526, Gettysburg and the McSherrystown Fish and Game Association. He was employed with McDonnell Construction Company, Gettysburg retiring in 1991.
He is survived by Barbara Smith of Gettysburg, his daughter, Linda Dillon of Glen Burnie, MD, two brothers, Charles R. Smith and his wife Evelyn of Rouzerville, PA and Harold R. Smith and his wife Darlene of Waynesboro, PA and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Howard was preceded in death by his sister, Mary Catherine Eck.
A memorial celebration of life will be held at 11 AM Saturday June 28, 2008 at the VFW Post 15, 369 East Middle Street, Gettysburg.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial contributions in Howard's name be made to the McSherrystown Fish and Game Association, 2 Fish and Game Road, New Oxford, PA 17350.
The Peters Funeral Home, 321 Carlisle St. Gettysburg is assisting the family with the arrangements.
