Harold E. Unger, 71 of Gettysburg passed away peacefully at Gettysburg hospital on Monday, June 17, 2024. He was the beloved husband of 53 years to Lillie (Weaver) Unger.
Born January 25, 1953 in Gettysburg, he was a son of the late Leroy and Mae A. (Russell) Unger.
Mr. Unger served a faithful 43 years as a welder for B.A.E. Systems. In his free time, he cherished the outdoors and loved hunting, fishing and tending his garden. While in his garden shed, Country & Western, Gospel and Bluegrass music almost always filled the air. He also loved animals, especially his faithful Pit Bull, Daisy Mae. In addition, he enjoyed playing the lottery. Most especially, he was known for his great baking skills, especially his award-winning pumpkin pies.
In addition to his wife Lillie, Harold's memory will be cherished and carried on by three children: Tammy R. Speelman and her husband Shawn, Melissa A. Rosenberry and Johnny W. Unger; five siblings: Terry Unger, Linda Cool, Betty Ghawana, Janet Strite and Stanley Unger; ten grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, as well as many loving nieces, nephews, extended family and friends and his faithful dog, Daisy Mae.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his son, Harold E. "Butchie" Unger, Jr. and four brothers: Raymond Unger, Tom Unger, Steven Unger and Dennis Unger.
A funeral service to celebrate Harold's life will be held on Monday, June 24th at 11am at the Gettysburg Church of the Brethren; 1710 Biglerville Rd.; Gettysburg, PA 17325 with Pastor Garry Sheaffer officiating. Interment will follow in Mummert's Meetinghouse Cemetery in East Berlin. A time to share memories and an opportunity to view will also be on Monday morning at the church from 10am until the start of the service.
