Born February 24, 1943, in Chambersburg, he was the son of H. Ralph Barnes and Hilda M. Eichelberger.

He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Cindy Henson. Also surviving are his 8 children: Jennifer Johnson and husband Major, Jeffrey Barnes, Elizabeth Amos and husband Donald, Brett Barnes and wife Katie, Matthew Barnes and Jennifer Bumbaugh, Meredith Barnes, Mark Barnes, Christopher Barnes. He is also survived by 12 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren, and pre-deceased by one grandson.

He was a 1961 graduate of Chambersburg Area High School, and received his Bachelors and Masters Degree in Education from Shippensburg University.

He worked as a teacher for the Chambersburg School District, sold insurance for Prudential, worked for Time Warner Cable Company and retired from the Franklin/Fulton MH/MR program, where he worked as a case work supervisor for 10 years.

He was also a 32nd degree mason with the George Washington Lodge, No. 143 in Chambersburg. He also volunteered his time with the Jr. Truck and Hose Company #2, Cumberland Valley Fireman's Association, Chambersburg Relief and the Chambersburg Fire Museum.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 5, 2011 at The Chambersburg Fire Company Headquarters Station, located at 130 North Second Street, Chambersburg PA, 17201. Visitation with the family will be held at the fire station starting at 1:00 p.m. A reception will be held following the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Chambersburg Fire Museum or your local fire company. Arrangements are being coordinated by Peters Funeral Home, Gettysburg, PA.
