Obituary

Gail (Aikins) Platt, 65, of Gettysburg, passed away Wednesday, April 01, 2009 at home with her family by her side. She was the loving wife of Marlin Platt.

Born March 10, 1944, in Rochester, PA, she was a daughter of Marie (Hetrick) Aikins, of Gettysburg, and the late Wilmer Aikins.

After graduating from West Chester High School in 1962, Mrs. Platt moved to Gettysburg in 1969. She was employed as a bookkeeper with Wolf's Bus Lines in York Springs for over twenty years until her retirement in 2004. Until recently, Mrs. Platt also served in this capacity for the Flower Boutique in Gettysburg. Previously, she was employed at the Gettysburg Tour Center and the Queen Lady.

Mrs. Platt was a member of the Women of the Moose, Gettysburg. Affectionately known as "Fluffy" by her family, her unconditional devotion and unending ability to be there for her family will be greatly missed.

Surviving, in addition to her husband and mother, are three daughters, Denise Matlack, Melinda Bowling and her husband Craig, and Kathleen Kiick, all of Gettysburg; her sister, Donna Vandegraft and her husband James of Illinois; her brother, Gary Aikins and his wife Charlotte of Annville, PA; eight grandchildren, Ashley Bodkins, Amber Weaver, Randall Ketterman, Kaytlyn Bowling, Jynapher Bowling, Zachary Kiick, Sydney Kiick, and Scott Parker; and two great-grandchildren, Mynia Fuhrman and Mrs. Platt's namesake, Chloe Gail Lawrence, who will be welcomed into this world in July.

She was preceded in death by two brothers, Curtis Aikins and Richard Aikins; and her son-in-law, Brent Raymer.

The funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Saturday, April 4, 2009 at the Peters Funeral Home, 321 Carlisle St., Gettysburg, with Chaplain Karen Minnich-Sadler officiating. Viewing will be held between 6 and 8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. A second viewing will begin 9 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens.

Serving as pallbearers will be Randall Ketterman, Craig Bowling, Lewis Bodkins, John Gumm, Blaine Platt, and Ken Rohrbaugh. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Zachary Kiick and Kenny Reed.
