Florence D. Herring, 88, of Carlisle and formerly of Adams County passed peacefully on Sunday, January 26, 2014 at Manor Care, Carlisle.

She was born April 5, 1925 in Orrtanna the daughter of the late Wilfred and Alda (Shuyler) Forsythe.

Florence worked at Gettysburg Shoe Factory, Sylvania Shoe Factory, Mt. Holly Springs, Freeman Shoe Factory, McSherrystown and later was employed at Knouse Foods, Peach Glen. She enjoyed working outside, especially gardening and cutting wood.

She is survived by her children, Dale R. Herring and wife Charlotte A. , Fayetteville; Helen V. Smyth and husband Gene, Mt. Holly Springs; Dorothy Brent, Carlisle; Alice Herring, Orrtanna; Edward A. Herring and wife Tina M., Orrtanna and Hazel Mae Faircloth, Chambersburg, brothers and sisters, John W. Forsythe, Aspers; Donald E. Forsythe and wife Betty, Gettysburg; Betty Robinson, Gettysburg; Shirley Codori and husband Bill, Gettysburg and Nancy Lawrence and husband Floyd, Columbia, MD, 15 grandchildren and 26 great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by two brothers and two sisters, Clarence W. Forsythe, Sr.; Paul J. Forsythe; Mary McIntyre and Ruth Stitley.

Funeral services will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday at Peters Funeral Home, 321 Carlisle Street, Gettysburg with Rev. Michael E. Allwein officiating. A time to share memories and an opportunity to view will be on Wednesday from 10 AM until the time of the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Wenksville Cemetery, Biglerville. Serving as pallbearers will be, Edward Herring; Jesse Ramirez; Alex Martin; Jayme McDannell; Matt Herring; Tyler Herring; Brian Martin and Terry Faircloth.
