Obituary

Ethel M. (Singley) Sprigg, 85, of Gettysburg, passed away Thursday, July 8, 2010 at her residence. She was the wife of Clarence A. Sprigg, who died November 4, 1996.

Born December 31, 1924 in Fairfield, she was a daughter of the late Lawrence P. and Clara (Hoffman) Singley.

Mrs. Sprigg was a graduate of Fairfield Area High School. She attended a number of local churches, most recently Gettysburg Bible Baptist Church.

She was a master seamstress who was employed for many years at local sewing factories. Ethel later retired from Glaxo Smith Kline in Hanover. She also enjoyed serving as a caretaker for the elderly.

In her free time, Mrs. Sprigg enjoyed gardening, completing crossword puzzles, and serving as an election volunteer at Greenmount Fire Hall.

Surviving is her son, Carl A. Sprigg and his wife Annette ("Billie") of Crossville, TN; four daughters, Joyce Shoemaker and her husband Donald of Taneytown, MD, Kay M. Sprigg of Hanover, Valerie A. Oakley and her husband Richard of Gettysburg, and Carol L. Bridges and her husband Don ("Red"); her sister, Helen Kerrigan of Gettysburg; twelve grandchildren; and twelve great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Clair A. Sprigg; two brothers, Melvin Singley and Merle Singley; and one sister, Dorothy Sharrah.

The funeral service will be held 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, July 13 at the Peters Funeral Home, 321 Carlisle St., Gettysburg, with Chaplain John Morrill officiating. A viewing will be held between 10 and 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery.

Serving as pallbearers will be Andrew Shoemaker, Ron Snyder, John Kerrigan, Joe Kerrigan, Zachary Mullins, and Ralph Staub.
