She was born April 2, 1919 in Bland, VA the daughter of the late John Andrew and Nancy Catherine (Chandler) Davis.

Mrs. Herman worked in the ship yards in Baltimore, MD during WW II and later worked at a number of shoe factories throughout Adams County. She was a member of Memorial Baptist Church, Gettysburg and volunteered at the Gettysburg Senior Center. She enjoyed playing bingo and cards.

She is survived by her sons, Kyle Gene Davis and his wife Nancy Hatcher of Orrtanna and Roy Lee Zentz of Carmichael, CA; brother, Warren Davis of Cashtown; sister, Shirley Copeland of Landover, MD; 11 grandchildren; 24 great grandchildren and 12 great great grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by a son, Larry Lefler, grandsons, Tony and Troy Hatcher, great grandson, Brandon Hatcher and niece, Tracy Davis.

A service to celebrate the life of Ethel Herman will be on Thursday, January 19, 2012 at 11 AM at the Peters Funeral Home, 321 Carlisle Street, Gettysburg with Pastor Steven F. Baker officiating. A time to share memories and an opportunity to view will be on Thursday from 10 AM until the time of the service at the funeral home. Burial will be in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Gettysburg.
