Ethel V. (Starry) Ditzler, 97 of Gettysburg, passed away peacefully on Saturday, March 3, 2018 at the Gardens at Gettysburg. She was the loving wife of the late Charles E. Ditzler, Jr., who passed away June 20, 1997; together they shared 58 years of marriage.
Born June 14, 1920 in Gettysburg, she was a daughter of the late Amos and Mary (Clapper) Starry.
Ethel was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother; she loved her family and cherished the time spent with them. Ethel was a long time member of St. James Lutheran Church, a proud seamstress and had a deep love for animals. Ethel and her husband Charles owned and operated Ditzler Music Supplies in Gettysburg for 10 years; she was also a school crossing guard for many years.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff and volunteers at the Gardens of Gettysburg; their care and compassion was greatly appreciated.
Ethel is survived by her children, Ronald L. Ditzler and his wife Karen of Apex, NC, Margaret H. Sumter and her husband John of Shippensburg; a daughter-in-law, Freda Ditzler of Georgetown, TX. Ethel is also survived by many loving grandchildren and great grandchildren.
In addition to her parents and husband, Ethel was preceded in death by a son, Charles E. Ditzler, III; a brother, Dale William Starry; three sisters, Gladys Newman, Betty Rosensteel, and Ruth Singley.
There will be no public viewing. A graveside service to celebrate the life of Ethel will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 8, 2018 at Evergreen Cemetery, 799 Baltimore St, Gettysburg, PA with Rev. Michael E. Allwein officiating.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Alzheimer's Association of Greater Pennsylvania, 3544 N. Progress Ave., Suite 205, Harrisburg, PA 17110.
