Emma Jane (Riggeal) Richens, 89 of Gettysburg, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 4, 2019 at York Hospital. She was the wife of the late Jack Richens Sr.
Born May 26, 1929 in Orrtanna, she was the daughter of the late Wilbert A. Riggeal and Jennie V. (Creager) Sherman.
Emma Jane was a charter member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles Auxilliary in Gettysburg, a member of the Women of the Moose since 1950, and a lifelong member of the Orrtanna Methodist Church. She owned and operated the Cashtown Inn in Cashtown, PA from 1956 through 1968. She was retired from the PA Dept of Transportation. She was active in the community throughout her life, and will be remembered by all who knew her as loving and generous.
Emma Jane is survived by her son, Gregory D. Riggeal and his wife Deborah L. of Biglerville; two step children; Jacklyn Knoerlin and her husband Bob of Baltimore, MD, Jack Richens, Jr. and his wife Laura of Columbia, MO; two grandchildren, Lauren Riggeal and her fiancé Josh Gamber of Biglervillle, Nathan Riggeal of Biglerville; a brother, Ivan Z. Riggeal of Gettysburg; many loving step grandchildren, step great grandchildren and extended family members.
In addition to her parents and husband, Emma Jane was preceded in death by her first husband Dan Greenawalt.
A memorial service to celebrate the life of Emma Jane will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, January 12, 2019 at Orrtanna United Methodist Church, 1717 Carrolls Tract Rd., Orrtanna, PA with Rev. Kim Phillips officiating.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Orrtanna United Methodist at the address listed above or to Adams County SPCA, 11 Goldenville Rd, Gettysburg, PA 17325.
