Elwood M. Miller, 82, of Gettysburg, died Saturday, May 2, 2009 at Green Acres Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
Born November 30, 1926 in Gettysburg, he was a son of the late Noah J. and Mildred M. (Stallsmith) Miller.
Mr. Miller was employed as a forklift operator with Letterkenny Army Depot in Chambersburg until his retirement. He later owned and operated Cleveland's Motel in Gettysburg for fifteen years.
Mr. Miller served his country honorably as a veteran of the U.S. Navy during World War II. He was also a member of St. James Lutheran Church in Gettysburg for many years. In his earlier years, Mr. Miller enjoyed hunting, especially in Wyoming. He was also an avid gardener and breeder of Chihuahuas.
Surviving are two sons, Marshall L. Miller and his wife Barb of Gettysburg, and Rodney J. Miller of Hanover; his daughter, Deborah K. Koontz and her husband Don of Fairfield; two grandsons, Matthew Miller and Kevin Miller, both of Weatherford, TX; three granddaughters, Kelli Myers of New Oxford, Angie Hostetter of Gettysburg, and Megan Hostetter of York; and four great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his three brothers, Richard E. Miller, Robert L. Miller, and Donald W. Miller.
The funeral service will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, May 5, 2009 at the Peters Funeral Home, 321 Carlisle St., Gettysburg, with Rev. Jeanette D. Leisk officiating. A viewing will be held between 9:30 and 11 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. Burial will be in Benders Church Cemetery.
