Obituary

Elma I. (Oliver) Selby, 87 of Fairfield, formerly of Alexandria, VA, was called home on Friday, December 19, 2014. She was the loving wife of Arthur D. Selby.

Born January 5, 1927 in Danville, VA, she was a daughter of the late Roosevelt and Hallie (Tucker) Oliver.

Elma loved working with people, especially children. Elma's occupations included being a licensed practical nurse and later, a teacher's aide, working with preschool and kindergarten children. A woman of many talents, as a child she was known as the little girl who could play the piano. Elma was also a painter, poet, and an accomplished writer. In 2009 she self-published "The Lantern Light", a memoir of her years growing up in Virgilina, Virginia. She was a faithful member of St. Mary's Episcopal Church in Washington DC. She loved the Lord, her family, and friends.

In addition to her husband, Elma is survived by three daughters, Sharon Nunnally of Denver, CO, Krishna Nunnally-Najieb and her husband Jamal of Pasadena, CA, and Aleise Selby of Arlington, VA. Elma is also survived by six grandchildren, nine great grandchildren, and two great great grandchildren.

In addition to her parents, Elma was preceded in death by her sister, Bessie Oliver.

A memorial service celebrating the life of Mrs. Selby will be held Saturday, February 7, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Mary's Episcopal Church, 730 23rd NW, and Washington DC 20037.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made in Elma's Memory to Survivors, Inc. Post Office Box 3572 Gettysburg, PA 17325.
