Born July 9, 1929 in Littlestown, she was a daughter of the late Bernard W. and Rose V. (Price) Eckenrode.
Mrs. Clabaugh was a member of St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church in Bonneauville where she served on the Parish Council of Catholic Women (PCCW). After receiving her training in Ohio, she was employed for over 30 years as a nurse with a number of local facilities, including Gettysburg Hospital, Hanover Hospital, Green Acres Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, and the Gettysburg Lutheran Retirement Village. She was also employed at Doubleday in Hanover and was a waitress at the Gettysburg Elks and American Legion.
Mrs. Clabaugh was a Charter Member and Past President of the Catholic War Veterans Auxiliary in Bonneauville. For many years, she served as a Judge of Elections in Bonneauville and, later, in Chester County. In her free time, Mrs. Clabaugh enjoyed reading, making quilts for her grandchildren, and bowling with her husband in a number of leagues including the Catholic War Veterans, Gettysburg Moose, and the Gettysburg Elks.
Surviving, in addition to her husband, are two sons, Dennis "Duke" Clabaugh and his wife Michelle of Dillsburg, and Daniel Clabaugh and his wife JoAnne of Potomac, MD; two daughters, Constance Slagle of Hanover, and Mary Reiter and her husband Doug of Harrisburg; two brothers, Richard Eckenrode and his wife Theresa of Littlestown, and Patrick Eckenrode and his wife Sylvia of Bonneauville; twenty grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren with two more on the way.
She was preceded in death by a daughter, Anna Ebert; three brothers, Bernard C. Eckenrode, William Eckenrode, and Thomas Eckenrode; and two sisters, Kathryn Study and Rose Marie Eckenrode.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held 10:00 a.m. Friday, October 30, 2009 at St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church, 12 E. Hanover St., Bonneauville, with Father Caesar A. Belchez as celebrant. Family and friends are invited to meet at the Peters Funeral Home, 321 Carlisle St., Gettysburg, at 9:00 a.m. Friday to process to the church at 9:30 a.m.. A viewing and time to share memories with the family will be held between 6 and 8 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home. The Catholic War Veterans Auxiliary will offer a presentation at 7:30 p.m. The Rosary will be recited at 7:45 p.m. Burial will be in St. Joseph the Worker Catholic Church Cemetery, Bonneauville.
Serving as pallbearers will be Duke Clabaugh, Daniel Clabaugh, Jarred Ebert, Joshua Clabaugh, Laura Slagle, Elizabeth Reiter, Andrea Clabaugh, and Doug Reiter.
