Dorothy E. (Marshall) Carpenter, 72, of New Oxford and formerly of Indianapolis, died Thursday, May 6, 2010.

Born July 3, 1937 on Martha's Vineyard Island, MA, she was the daughter of the late George F. and Elisabeth (Easton) Marshall.

Dotty lead an active, full life including raising her family and a career in the medical profession in Indianapolis. In 2004, she relocated to be closer to her son and family in New Oxford.

Dotty was an avid animal lover and enjoyed working closely with local spay/neuter clinics and animal rescue organizations.

Surviving is her son, James L. Carpenter II (Ann-Marie); her daughter, Elisabeth E. Barranger (Gary); two grandsons, Charles and Michael Carpenter; and her step-granddaughter, Cheyenne Beal; her sisters, Barbara Pavao (John) and Teri Weed. She is preceded in death by her husband, James L. Carpenter and her brother, George F. Marshall, Jr.

A Memorial service will be held at Hanover Hall, 267 Frederick St., Hanover, on Thursday, May 13, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. A private graveside service will be held in Evergreen Cemetery, Marion, MA.
